I’m back to share another wedding!!. Today I’m going to feature a wedding I had the pleasure of second shooting (where I work as the secondary photographer).During the wedding season I prefer to have a balance of second shooting and shooting wedding as the primary photographer. Second shooting provides me the opportunity to JUST SHOOT. I get to freely capture what I see.
While capturing moments is an important part of serving as a second shooter. The second shooter is also there to provide assistance to the primary photographer. Assistance can be anything from parking the car, being a human light stand, carrying bags, or even being a water boy/girl (photographers get thirsty while shooting). It is a very humbling experience and always reminds me of why I became a photographer.
I’ve had the pleasure of second shooting with some very talented photographers in the past, and I’ve been blessed to have some very talented second shooters assist me. I would advise anyone interested in pursuing wedding photography to first earn their stripes second shooting for a photographer whose work you admire. This is not always as easy as it sounds, since in order to be a valuable second shooter you need have some sort of portfolio to entice photographers to work with you. I can go on and on about second shooting, but it would take an entire blog post just to cover everything. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions.
Kacie and Anup’s big day involved a lovely outdoor, traditional Indian ceremony and an elegant reception. Both held at The West Belmont Place in Leesburg Virginia. Here are a few of my favorite images from this colorful and vibrant celebration of love. Enjoy!
